Welcome to this year's Probert Challenge: RAID. In August we'll be taking on what is by some way our most ambitious challenge yet: Setting off from the Atlantic port of Biarritz, we'll cycle over 67,000ft worth of Pyreneen mountains as we attempt to reach Perpignan 419 miles away on the opposite coast.
Our route will traverse some of the most feared and respected climbs in cycling folklore: Tourmalet, Perysourde, Aspin, Aubisque. Their names alone send a shiver up the back of any well-versed rouleur. The stunning vistas that will present themselves to us as we climb should take the edge off the pain we will invariably be enduring. Should we conquer these majestic opponents, our feats will become the stuff of cafe-stop legend back home.
This year sees the welcome return of Mike, who took part in the inaugural Probert Challenge back in 2009. Having sustained a career-ending knee injury that time around, Mike now returns as Team Manager; piloting the support vehicle and providing the crucial assistance needed to get us to the finish line.
2013 also boasts the greatest array of technology yet seen on a Probert Challenge, with enough photography, GPS tracking and computing power to push the boundaries of how we tell the story.
Watch this space, it's got the makings of a classic...
